Lights Off was the first episode of the tenth series of Doctor Who produced by BBC Wales. It marked the first appearance of Emma Ward as a companion.

The episode shows the first encounter between the Doctor and Emma, as well as touching upon the concept of "the support group" which would be introduced in the two-parter Blank Space/ Fear of the Unknown. It is also the second episode in Capaldi's era to feature Gus.

Synopsis Edit

When people start to go missing in the 21st century, photo-journalist Emma Ward takes matters into her owns hands and investigates. Her investigation leads her to Barton House, where Emma finds herself caught up in a life of adventure and mystery when she meets the Doctor.

Finding themselves in 1976, they find a ghost-hunting professor and two of his students. How did they end up in 1976? What is really haunting the house? and more importantly... do you believe in the Boogeyman?

Plot Edit

In a little village in Hertfordshire, an elderly man spots a light turn on in the abandoned Barton House nearby. He assumes kids are inside and goes to investigate. Ray breaks into the house and uses his torch to search around. Entering a room upstairs, he hears a noise in the attic. He climbs up but finds no-one. It is only when his flashlight stops working that he starts to worry. He manages to get a flicker of light from his torch when a silhouette runs out of nowhere and attacks.

Back in London, in the newsroom of The Observer, executive editor Martin and deputy editor Noel are discussing who they're gonna send to a missing persons conference. Young reporter Emma Ward approaches them and, after Martin leaves, asks Noel to reassign her. He turns down the idea.
